Black History Month

Le français plus bas. El español abajo.

With Black History Month approaching, I was curious why the US chose February. It turns out, February was chosen because that month contains Frederick Douglass’ and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays. I like that it also has Valentine’s Day, the holiday celebrating love. As we remember those African Americans and other Americans who worked so hard for equality and minority visibility, I hope we all keep that spirit of love in our hearts: Love of self and other.

Alice gave me this drawing on Wednesday. I asked her who was in it. She said, “It’s me and my friend.” I asked her which friend, and she said, “I don’t know. I haven’t met her yet.” May we all approach race relations with that openness.

Pregunte a ella “Cuál amiga?” Ella me respondió “No sé. Todavía no he encontrado a ella.”

  3. I love this! I am curious though why you put the accents in the French, and not the Spanish? I love Alice! Give that girl a big huggy squeeze for me. Love the shoes on those girls, too.
