Rain, Rain

Rain, rain, go away.

Come back in light gentle showers some other day.  [No more torrents!!]

I'm currently in the land of lots of rain, sleet, and a bit of snow. The weatherman calls it a wintery mix, which sounds beautiful and poetic.

It is not either. It has been raining a lot for the past few days.

And now, my basement carpet feels like a sponge.

It's only 8:00 am. I've already emptied my dehumidifier once and my carpet cleaner twice, and the carpet is still soaking wet.

This is a little overwhelming for a mother with 2 under 2 and a husband at work.

On the positive side, we already own the huge dehumidifier and carpet cleaner, so that is surely a blessing. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do anything about it right now at all.

It does feel somewhat defeating to keep sucking water out knowing that it is just seeping back in. I wish the precipitation would just take a break.

So if you're having a bad morning and you want it to improve, imagine me in my pajamas with the pants rolled up, my bare feet soaking wet, pushing the carpet cleaner over and over again in the same wet spot. :) Hopefully that will make your morning a little bit better. (Unless of course your morning is worse than this. In which case, I am very sorry.)

And, for the real positive spin, at least I have a home to be flooded. Many, many people in the world do not have that. For only my bare feet are wet, and they are entirely soaked. I am blessed even as I grumble about my lot.

Rain, rain, go away.

Oh yes, and the mere fact that I am combating my basement water issues with a carpet cleaner and dehumidifier as opposed to buckets means that I really can't complain that much. (Sorry, Ames!)

  1. Ha ha, oh Meems - what a great post on a not so great morning!

And think of this: your day can only get better from here, right? Right?? Oops, shouldn't have asked that... good luck!

  2. You mentioning your get-the-water-out-just-so-more-can-come-in struggle reminds me of whenever I'm merciful to the bugs in our apartment. I feel like I save one life by depositing the little critter outside, and ten more little critters follow me inside. Anyway. I hope your day gets better. :) Love you!

  3. Oh those darn basements. We love 'em and we hate 'em. Depends on the weather. I hope your babies can sleep through the sound of the carpet cleaner.

  5. Any news on the chance of this being a darn downspout gone bad? I did a double take when I read your Mom's darn basement and had to copy her.

  6. Hang in there. There will be other rainy days that you curl up with a book in front of a fire.
