Bethany Bowman

So, I have a beautiful cousin named Bethany Bowman. Things didn't work out with her parents, and they were divorced. She went with her mom, and my relation is her dad (my mom's brother), so I basically hadn't seen her in 20 years? 17 years? (I'm not really sure when they were divorced, but I haven't seen her since I was little.)

My mom tried to keep in touch with Bethany over the years, but Bethany was too little when it happened to really remember us, and I'm sure my mom reminded Bethany's mom of her ex-husband, which presumably wasn't a pleasant memory for her. (I love my uncle by the way; I think he's great. I know nothing about why they got divorced, etc., so I have no opinion or voice on that.) My mom would send letters and call once or a few times every year. Bethany's mom remarried a great guy, and she had a whole new family with a brother and sisters.

Bethany moved to Utah this year, and one of her sisters was in charge of her mail. Her little sister had no idea who the Bolings were, so when Bethany came home for Christmas, she was given my mom's most recent letter—the 2008 Boling Family Letter. Bethany contacted my mom, and who was lost is now found!

My mom let her know that I was in Provo, too, and we were able to see each other. Bethany moved to Iowa a week after I saw her, which was too bad, but it's okay, because she's getting married in Nauvoo this spring, and her fiancee is in Iowa, so it's definitely better for them to be near each other than she and I. Haha.

Anyway, it was really wonderful to catch up with a cousin who I hadn't seen in so long, but who is very close to my age (just a year or two different). I had always wondered how her life had turned out, if she was happy, still a member of the Church, etc., and it was really great to see her again.

And now we're facebook friends, so I'll always have a way to get in touch with her, no matter where she moves. :)

  1. Look at you guys! When mom said she was getting married it was one of those moments where you realize that someone had grown up that in your memory had always stayed the same age... does that make sense? I was like, how can she get married, isn't she like 8 years old? She is beautiful!!
