I once was

Singing with wild abandon and twirling—
I once was you.

Carrying a teddy bear in public to share the picnic—

I once was you.

Letting the popsicle drip on the shirt—

Wait—I might actually still be you.

Nursing a baby on the curb—

I once was you.

Chasing a toddler down the way—

I once was you.

Smelling the flowers while walking by,

Tucking a fallen blossom behind an ear,

Wiggling shoulders and bouncing feet—

Yes and yup and definitely!

All these meandering musings to say:

Perhaps humans aren’t as different

As we

Label

And imagine

Them to be.

Maybe discovering that is the

Happily Ever After

We’re all seeking.
