Hermanas

She ate the tuna and the avocado marshmallows.

I ate all the mushrooms—twice.

We both polished off the Sachertorte.

My blue was as light as my eyes,

and your purple was the majestic night sky.

Our smiles matched,

Our heels were high,

And our jewelry was full of reminders.

You lit all the fires.

I bossed all the bossing—

Relieved to know the flames were alive,

Knowing I can always count on you.

I walked over the edge of the cliff,

And you zip lined upside down.

You admired ancient rock drawings,

And we climbed a pyramid—

Amazed at what people did then

and what we can do now.

I talked of turkeys,

and you spoke of Olmecs.

Honestly, doing anything with you is fun.

We went to the amusement park,

Little knowing that the true stomach churning thrills would be the car ride home.

For eleven precious days,

I was a sister,

and I had a sister.

And she was all mine.

Thank you for sharing.

  1. My prayer is that more sister adventures are in your future; clearly they're worth making happen.
